A quick post to share a resource to help work with the UNESCO AI Competencies for Students: Hexagonal Thinking workshop cards.
UNESCO’s documents are really useful, but some might find them hard to navigate. These cards take the four domains and competencies at different levels (Understand, Apply, Create) on the front side, and the individual competency statements on the reverse. There are instruction cards included.
What is Hexagonal Thinking?
Hexagonal Thinking is a well-established Design Thinking strategy. Hexagons contain concept/ideas/content and are selected and placed next to each other on the table. The edges of the cards are where they interact. Teachers & students make intentional choices about the placement and relationships, explaining their reasoning. See examples of Hexagonal Thinking from Cult of Pedagogy, Apple, Ditch That Textbook, InquirED.
The deck includes pre-made cards for the competencies and many blank cards. Blank cards can be used to write project components, key content or any other area of planning for interaction with the competencies.
Card Instructions:
- Download the pdf of the cards from here.
- Print A3, double-sided, flip on long-edge.
- Cut them out and use them.
